Before we can install an EV charger, we need to make sure your electrical panel can handle the extra load. Some homes — especially older ones — may not have enough capacity, which could require a panel upgrade.
Think of your electrical panel like a highway. If it’s already full of traffic (other circuits), adding another lane (your EV charger) might not be safe or even possible without an upgrade.
Not all EV chargers are the same. Some plug into a standard outlet, while others need a dedicated high-powered circuit. The larger the charger (Level 2 vs. Level 1), the more power it needs — and that affects both materials and labor costs.

Location plays a big role in pricing. The closer the charger is to your electrical panel, the lower the installation cost tends to be. If your garage is right next to the panel, that’s ideal.

We also have to consider how we’ll get the wiring from your panel to the charger location. Every home is built differently. Some have accessible attics, others have crawl spaces, and some require us to run conduit along exterior walls.
In some cases, we can fish the wire easily. In others, we may need to get creative (and possibly do more extensive work). These access factors can significantly impact the cost.
We know it can be frustrating to hear “it depends,” but the goal is always to install your charger safely, correctly, and in the most efficient way possible.
